The 2007 biker comedy “Wild Hogs,” which grossed $250M worldwide, has just been greenlit for a sequel, according to The InSneider. Disney is also bringing back the original cast which includes Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy. No word yet on whether Walt Becker is coming back to direct. Don’t be surprised if this one goes straight to Disney+ streaming.
This is unexpected news as “Wild Hogs,” which tackled four middle-aged friends who set off on a road trip and mistakenly end up crossing paths with an infamous biker gang, led by the late Ray Liotta, garnered terrible reviews (14% on Rotten Tomatoes). A sequel was quickly greenlit, titled “Wild Hogs 2: Bachelor Ride,” but was eventually canceled by Disney.
I’m not sure what changed Disney’s mind in deciding that it was now a good time to revive the sequel, but it’s definitely coming. If my theory that this is indeed a Disney+ release comes to fruition then it makes a little more sense in that the mouse house is now prioritizing content on their streaming service, and “Wild Hogs 2” would fit with the model, which Netflix has perfected, of delivering mediocre, but nostalgic-driven content that’s seen by millions of eyeballs.
