Mattel is currently embroiled in the middle of a PR nightmare. This weekend, the toy company had to halt sales and recall its “Wicked” merchandise and even issued a public apology.
It turns out that the URL address listed on packaging for the “Wicked” character dolls was actually that of a porn website. By Sunday afternoon, the entire “Wicked” doll collection was pulled and no longer available for sale in retail and online stores
In a statement issued on Sunday, Mattel confirmed they were made aware of the misprint and “deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this.”
“Wicked” is being marketed as a “family film,” so any connection to porn is not something Universal is looking for. The film has been screening to positive reactions these last few weeks, and is even being touted as an Oscar contender.
Founded in 1993, Wicked Pictures, whose official URL is Wicked.com, launched the porn careers of Stormy Daniels and Jenna Jameson — it also prides itself in being the only heterosexual studio to maintain a condoms-only policy.
