Some were wondering why John Turturro didn’t reprise his “The Batman” role as mob boss Carmine Falcone in HBO Max’s “The Penguin” — he was replaced by Mark Strong in the show. It turns out, misogyny was the main issue for Turturro (via Variety).
In the show, there was a lot of violence towards women, and that’s not my thing.
This could mean that if Falcone shows up in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II,” then Strong will replace him in the sequel as well which is set to shoot early next year.
Then again, didn’t Turturro’s Falcone literally strangle a woman in 2022’s “The Batman”? Turturro doesn’t tackle that particular scene, but claims that, for the most part, in that film “[Falcone’s] cruelty is only implied rather than illustrated […] It happens off-screen.”
I haven’t seen “The Penguin” yet. Critics have been split on the show, but audiences seem to love it. The series stars Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. The Penguin, and his attempts to seize the reins of the crime world in Gotham.
