Disney is developing a ‘Snow White’ spinoff, this one’s about Prince Charming. Paul King is set to direct. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand wrote the script.
I had previously reported that the movie would be told from Prince Charming's point of view, and the character will be depicted as a “bumbling idiot”. Snow White is set to appear as well, but the film will be mostly focusing on Prince Charming.
Regardless, The InSneider’s recent report that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to play the titular role has been confirmed by the trades. Hemsworth is set to shoot “Extraction 3” in early 2025, and then his schedule will be free to potentially shoot “Prince Charming” in Q3 or Q4.
I trust King — mostly because he’s the man behind the first two ‘Paddington’ movies — but I'm struggling to think of anything interesting that he could do with a “Prince Charming” movie. I get that this take will be satirical and depict the character as the Ken of the Disney-verse, but do audiences care enough?
A source recently told me that Disney is trying to create its own “Barbie” phenomenon with this film — they see high potential in this becoming a major hit.
Disney already shot a “Snow White” live-action remake, co-written by “Barbie” writer/director Greta Gerwig. The upcoming adaptation will not feature Prince Charming and instead focus on a Snow White who dreams of becoming a leader. A teaser was recently released for it.
