Filmmaker Guy Ritchie is a busy man. He has two projects out in 2024 and maybe even three, with a fourth beginning production. There’s “The Gentleman” spin-off series he’s working on, which he’s writing and directing, and is set to debut in March.
However, a month later, in April, Ritchie teams up with Lionsgate for the feature film “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare” for which we now have a trailer.
‘Ungentlemanly Warfare’, which is being dubbed a “WWII action-comedy,” stars Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusamokun, Henrique Zaga, Til Schweiger, Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes.
The film is based on the book, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill’s Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops” by Damien Lewis. Here’s the official synopsis:
Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.
As mentioned, Ritchie is busy busy busy — he recently completed production on another action film, this one again starring Cavill, Eiza González, and a certain Jake Gyllenhaal. It was also recently announced that he would direct “Fountain Of Youth,” starring Jon Krasinski, Natalie Portman, and, her again, Eiza González.
Say what you will about Ritchie, and there’s some baggage there, but I was a total sucker for his recent Jason Statham vehicle, “Wrath of Man,” which featured the best direction of his career and, in terms of style and tone, was a ballsy effort. Last year, Ritchie released also released a war film, “The Covenant,” another fairly impressive technical feat, that seemed to be well-liked by audiences.
Ritchie’s “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare” is in theaters on April 19, 2024.
