Is that Vineland’s Zoyd and his daughter, Prairie? DiCaprio can be seen above with newcomer actress Chase Infiniti, who fits the bill as Prairie. The vibes from the images we’ve seen so far surely hint at an adaptation of the near-unfilmable novel.
I don’t think we’ll be getting a confirmation anytime soon that this is indeed an adaptation of Pynchon’s “Vineland.” We haven’t even gotten additional casting confirmation beyond DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Regina Hall —who, supposedly, plays Prairie’s mother — even though this has been dubbed an “ensemble” film.
Back in late November, PTA’s producer and casting director, Cassandra Kulukundis, posted a casting call that was looking for a “teenage girl who excels at Martial Arts”.
One of the many characters in the novel is a woman by the name of DL Chastain, the daughter of an Army career man who has been trained in the martial arts by a Japanese master, and was once tried as an assassin. She takes Prairie, the main character (DiCaprio’s daughter) under her wing and initiates her to a women’s ninja collective.
I have no doubt that, if this is indeed “Vineland,” PTA has taken some liberties with Pynchon’s source material, much like he did with “The Master,” which was partly “inspired” by Pynchon’s “V.
