More bad news for Marvel, and a wonky start to the new year. A rumor that started on social media has turned out to be true, confirmed by THR.
Steven Yeung (“Beef,” “Minari”) has dropped out of Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts”. Yeun was first cast in February of 2023. The film was supposed to be shot in 2023, but then the strikes happened. It’s now supposed to shoot this summer with a July 25, 2025 release date set up.
THR’s Borys Kit did confirm on X that the reason for Yeun's departure was due to scheduling conflicts caused by the film's delay after the strikes. I’m sure the strikes impacted his exit, but maybe it’s all for the best given the drama that’s surrounded “Captain America: Brave New World,” which “Thunderbolts” might rely heavily on.
Directed by Jake Schreier, who helmed Yeun in “Beef,” “Thunderbolts” is a story led by a batch of anti-heroes and villains. The film stars Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Olga Kurylenko. Yeun, who was supposed to play Sentry, will now have to be replaced.
