It’s Friday, which means the release of another teaser for Oz Perkins’ “Longlegs.” This is the third one in as many weeks. It’s a very sly marketing campaign on the part of Neon, and it seems to be working really well on social media.
Neon must have a lot of confidence in this film. It matches the very positive intel that came out of last year’s test screening. I would assume that these teasers will eventually lead to an actual trailer being released sometime soon, probably on a Friday.
So far, all three teasers have hinted at serial killers — 911 calls, an FBI investigation. There have been a few blink-and-you'll-miss crime scene shots. There also seems to be some kind of religious component involving, prayers, veiled figures, cults etc. What’s with the mysterious codes?
The film stars Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage. Production on the film wrapped in March 2023. Cage has called “Longlegs” a "possessed Geppetto" movie. Whatever he meant by that, it does look like a wild ride.
Here’s the synopsis:
Lee Harker, a talented new FBI agent, has been assigned to an unsolved case of a serial killer. As the investigation becomes more complicated and occult evidence is uncovered, Harker realizes a personal link to the ruthless killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder.
“Longlegs” has been described as a “horror-thriller.” It currently has no release date, but it’s definitely coming out in 2024. If I had to guess, signs are pointing towards a summer release.
Perkins is best known for his 2015 indie debut “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” and 2020’s “Gretel & Hansel.” This latest film actually screened at last year’s EFM market in Berlin, where a bidding war ensued for its rights — Neon finally prevailed.
