Paul Thomas Anderson’s Film FINALLY Announced! Stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Regina Hall — Production Starts Next Week

January 10, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film has finally been announced. It will star, as previously rumored, Leonardo DiCaprio, with Sean Penn and Regina Hall as co-leads. There will be more names added to the cast in the coming days.

While DiCaprio, Penn and Hall are the leads, the new film will have a big ensemble cast that is still falling into place.

While not confirmed, there have been a few actors rumored around as possible ensemble cast members, including Joaquin Phoenix, Viggo Mortensen, and Rachel Taylor.

The film is still untitled and, as we reported, filming will begin shortly on January 21st in California. Warner Bros is backing this one, Anderson wrote the script, and he will produce the film.

The plot is also being kept under wraps. However, Deadline is reporting that it is a “contemporary setting” and it is the most commercial film that PTA has attempted, with a reported budget estimated to be approaching $100 million.

Have you noticed DiCaprio has been growing a beard lately? It’s most likely for this film. I also wonder how likely it is for this film to get released in December 2024. “Phantom Thread” also started filming in January of 2017 and was released in December of that year.

Anderson’s streak of films, since 1997’s “Boogie Nights,” has been unparalleled — his style, an indelible mix of influences ranging from Altman, Kubrick and Demme, set a new precedent with landmarks such as “There Will Be Blood,” “The Master,” “Phantom Thread” and “Magnolia”. His last film was 2021’s “Licorice Pizza.”

As for DiCaprio, During the course of his 30-year career, he’s worked with Scorsese (6x), Spielberg, Nolan, Tarantino (2x), Eastwood, Cameron, Inarritu, Luhrmann (2x), Allen, Mendes, Scott, and Boyle. It’s now time for a PTA collaboration.
