I’m glad the reviews out of Venice for Michel Franco’s “Memory,” starring Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard, are good. I was actually looking forward to this one. It sounds harrowing.
The positive reviews come to us from THR, Screen, B+ from IndieWire, Variety and The Wrap. The negative takes are courtesy of Little White Lies and The Daily Beast.
Not the biggest fan of Franco’s films, but I found he greatly progressed as a filmmaker with his last two outings (“New Order” and “Sundown”). “Memory” is set to screen at TIFF later this week. Here’s the synopsis:
Sylvia is a social worker who leads a simple and structured life. This is blown open when Saul follows her home from their high school reunion. Their surprise encounter will profoundly impact both of them as they open the door to the past.
