Lionsgate released “The Expend4bles” yesterday. Original projections had it opening at around $15 million, but it will barely be making half of that. It’s going to be a bomb, with an expected $8 million weekend. The budget was over $100 million.
Reviews probably detracted audiences from going to see the action extravaganza — the movie currently has a terrible 16% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yesterday, I said it was “unwatchable trash.” A majority of today’s movie audiences go on RT to decide what movie they’re going to watch. You can’t expect a movie with such a low score to become successful.
For some odd reason, ‘Expend4bles’ director Scott Waugh is hinting at a fifth movie going into production sometime soon. Unless the budget gets slashed in half, then there’s no earthly possibility for another one to ever get greenlit again.
Maybe they should also hire a better filmmaker, and screenwriter, next time around, not to mention a cast that doesn’t consist of C-list actors such as Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Megan Fox.
