It seems as though GKids, the U.S. distributor for Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” will not be following the same no-marketing path as Studio Ghibli in Japan.
An actual trailer for Miyazaki’s latest will be released next Wednesday, which is the day before it premieres at TIFF. We’ll actually, finally, be getting some footage of the latest film from the Japanese master.
“The Boy and the Heron” was released in Japan in July to mostly strong reviews. Japan Times’ critic Matt Schley wrote in his review, “I’m not sure where The Boy and the Heron will eventually fall on my list of Miyazaki favorites, but there were moments that took my breath away”.
A release date will also be announced next week. I’m guessing it’ll be released theatrically either in November or December, this would qualify it for the Best Animated Film category at the Oscars.
