This past January, I fell asleep during an 11pm Sundance screening of Raven Jackson’s “All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt.” I’ll get around to seeing it again, probably at TIFF next month.
I do remember the film barely having any lines of dialogue and the whole thing playing like a Terrence Malick film set in the Deep South. It’s mostly poetic ruminations about the ups and downs of a lower-class family in Mississippi. I don’t mind that, it’s just not the type of film to watch dead last on what was a four-movie day for me.
With that being said, a trailer has been released for Jackson’s film, which is being distributed by A24. It’s being described as a “A decades-spanning exploration of a woman’s life in Mississippi and an ode to the generations of people, places, and ineffable moments that shape us”.
“All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt”, set to hit theaters this fall, on a date that has not yet been revealed, has been getting very good reviews — an 85 on Metacritic and 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
