A gorgeous teaser for Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” has been unveiled. Cinematographer Linus Sandgren shot the film in unique 1.33:1 aspect ratio and the photography here is quite beautiful to look at.
The only red flag I see with this one is that NYFF rejected it. They didn’t like it. It probably won’t adhere to the high-brow tastes of the Lincoln Center, but will it be praised at Telluride? The attendees at that fest tend to eat up anything they’re fed.
“Saltburn” is set to be screened at Telluride this coming weekend. It’ll then have around a month off before it screens again, this time at the BFI London Film Festival in October. Oddly enough, the film is not at TIFF, I’m not entirely sure why.
Fennell polarized some, including myself, with her highly stylized and unsubtle “Promising Young Woman.” Despite that film’s flaws, she directed the hell out of it, there’s no denying that she’s a talented filmmaker. Whether “Saltburn” is an upgrade in quality remains to be seen.
