As we anticipate the release of Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” the legendary filmmaker is already setting his sights on another movie produced by Apple.
Leonardo DiCaprio will be joining Scorsese’s adaptation of the newly released David Grann non-fiction book, “The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder”. Grann is also the author of “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which, as mentioned, Scorsese recently adapted.
Grann has been doing the media rounds in France, promoting “The Wager,” which can already claim to be a New York Times #1 best seller. He’s mentioned that “The Wager” will be Scorsese’s next film.
It turns out that the Jesus film Scorsese had hinted at during his visit to the Vatican is more of an experimental foray for the legendary filmmaker, a “meditation” about his beliefs. “The Wager” seems to be next on tap for him.
Here’s a synopsis of Grann’s non-fiction book:
Set in the 1740s, Wager’s story is set in motion when a patched-together boat with 30 emaciated men landed on the coast of Brazil. The men were the surviving crew of British ship that was chasing a Spanish vessel and had crashed onto an island in South America’s Patagonia region. Their tales of surviving the seas and elements made them heroes. However, six months later another vessel, even more beat up than the first one, ended up on the coat of Chile, this one with three men. These new sailors charged that the other men were actually mutineers.
Scorsese also has three films currently in development; a Jerry Garcia biopic starring Jonah Hill, and a Teddy Roosevelt biopic starring DiCaprio (which might be dead, but there’s been no official confirmation).
Meanwhile, Scorsese and DiCaprio, one of the great actor/director partnerships of our time, have already made six movies together — counting “Killers of the Flower Moon,” the other five are “Gangs of New York, “The Aviator”, “The Departed”, “Shutter Island” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
