Disney’s much criticized “Snow White” live-action remake wrapped filming in July 2022 and was supposed to be released on March 22nd, 2024.
A Puck report (via The Direct) says the movie will now “almost certainly” be delayed to a later date. Reshoots are planned for “Snow White” and, with the ongoing actors strike, Disney has decided to push it back. They’re also, probably, hoping that people will forget all about the bad press the film has gotten in recent months.
In case you missed it …
The “dwarfs” in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake are being replaced by “fantastical beings” as to “avoid reinforcing stereotypes.” Snow White’s new companions will be a mix of genders and heights.
Co-written by Barbie's Greta Gerwig, the upcoming adaptation will not feature a Prince Charming either and will instead focus on a “stronger” Snow White who dreams of becoming a leader. Rachel Zegler will star as the titular heroine.
Recently, Zegler received some pushback for calling the 1937 original “weird” and described Prince Charming as a “stalker.” Last year, she had also referred to the upcoming remake as the “PC Snow White.”
The 1937 classic was directed by a few animators, one of whom was the late David Hand. Hand’s son has called this remake a “disgrace” and that Walt Disney and his dad would be “turning in their graves” if they were alive to witness it.
