Maggie Gyllenhaal is directing a remake of “Bride of Frankenstein” for Netflix with Christian Bale and Peter Saragaard set to star in the film, via Production Weekly.
This is a remake of the 1935 film — the sequel to 1931’s Frankenstein. This project will be anticipated not just due to Bale’s presence, but, more so because Gylenhaal is behind behind the camera for her second feature.
She helmed the 2021 psychological drama “The Lost Daughter,” starring Olivia Colman, which turned out to be a critical hit. It also garnered three Oscar nominations and won Gylenhaal Best Screenplay honors at Venice.
The film isn’t supposed to start production until the first quarter of 2024, more than enough time to have Gylenhaal return to Venice with her sophomore effort.
