I’ll be typing out my thoughts for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and hope to publish it later this evening.
Suffice to say, the reviews are out and they are practically all raves. It so far has a 91 on Metacritic (based on 27 reviews). It could very well end up being Nolan’s most critically-acclaimed film.
Robert Downey Jr keeps being mentioned as a standout and automatic Oscar contender. This is yet another comeback for the actor, he’s settling in quite nicely now in the post-Marvel acting phase of his career.
Downey’s castmates Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt are also being singled out as awards contenders. I presume the race for Best Director is now between Nolan and Scorsese. Did we expect anything else from this movie?
Meanwhile, in France, the reviews are not as unanimous as in the States — it currently holds a respectable 3.7 on AlloCine. They’re even harsher on “Barbie,” but we’ll save that for another soon-to-be-published post.
Nolan is coming off the most divisive film of his career, “Tenet,” but he’s back with a vengeance. Critics have always been split on his films, save for “Dunkirk,” but “Oppenheimer” seems to have struck a chord with a majority of them.
“Oppenheimer” is being released on Friday.
