UPDATED: Gosh, did we really need another Atom Egoyan movie? The man hasn’t directed a strong film since 1997’s “The Sweet Hereafter.” Ok, fine “Chloe” and “Remember” were .. okay, but other than those two, he’s been in a major slump. With that being said, today’s big TIFF world premiere announcement was an Atom Egoyan movie, this one titled “Seven Veils” and starring Amanda Seyfried.
EARLIER: TIFF is only going to announce a single world premiere this morning. It’s pushing the Gala/Special Presentations announcement to next week, no reason given — but we know why, of course. The strike. A messy situation for not just them, but Venice and Telluride as well. I’ll update this post when the world premiere title is revealed. So far, they’ve announced just two movies: Ladj Ly’s “Les Indesirables” and Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins.” Hey, I don’t mind an empty TIFF, with far less press, I’ll still be attending.
