This one’s got legs. What an insane story “Sound of Freedom” has become. It made $40 million in its first seven days of release and is now again #1 at the box-office with a Monday gross of $4 million.
Its gross domestic total now stands at $41.6M with an additional $4M+ in Pay it Forward grosses. The anti-human trafficking indie, with a limp $15 million budget, might make more than $100 million when its run eventually ends.
The film, which was never press screened, and I have yet to catch, opened on July 4th and has been a speeding train of success every since. Its CinemaScore is A+ and on IMDb it’s at an astonishing 8.7 — the film can’t be that good, right?
The film will obviously not stay at #1 since “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” is starting its run tonight, but “Sound of Freedom” is easily the most profitable indie of 2023 so far, and it’s not even close. I’ll be seeing it on Friday. I’m not expecting much, but am open to being pleasantly surprised.
