I’m pleased to report that “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” will only be available digitally on October 10th. That means, you should go see this one in theaters.
It’s going to exceed Paramount’s 90-day theatrical window. The power of Tom Cruise! Expect something similar for Christopher Nolan and “Oppenheimer,” which has a 100-day window and might only be made available on VOD in November.
It’s no secret that movie theaters are currently in a desperate predicament. As studios are hysterically looking for answers to their underperforming summer blockbusters, it’s quite obvious that VOD has become a major source of income for them.
The pandemic forced studios to stream much of their new content. Many moviegoers realized just how much more comfortable, and less headache-inducing, it was to stream at home than to go to their local cineplex.
You can now just stay in, save parking money, and not endure any of the annoyances that come with watching a movie in public — who wants someone texting and talking right next to them during a movie? It’s become an epidemic at the local multiplex.
I get it, nobody wants a person pulling out their stupid bright phone out and scrolling during a movie. Moviegoers are rude now. You even see it infiltrating film festivals, including Cannes.
Nowadays, If I want to buy a movie ticket I make sure that it’s a showtime that won’t be too busy and I try to sit as far away from a crowd or pack of people, to save myself from having to tell them to shut up or put that goddamn phone down.
