When it was greenlit a year ago, Disney's live-action remake of “Snow White” had a problem, after some backlash, the inclusive studio did not want to use “dwarfs” in the the live action film due to it being politically incorrect.
Daniel Richtman is now reporting that Disney has replaced the “dwarfs” with seven “fantastical beings” to “avoid reinforcing stereotypes.”
Richtman goes in to say that some of these “fantastical beings” will still be small people in the movie but not as "dwarfs" as the movie is going for an inclusive environment for small people.
If you remember, Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage criticised the 'f****** backwards story' last year. This is what really sparked the backlash and had Disney going back to the drawing board with their creative team.
Co-written by Barbie's Greta Gerwig, the upcoming adaptation will not feature a Prince Charming either and will instead focus on a “stronger” Snow White who dreams of becoming a leader.
Rachel Zegler, who plays Snow White, addressed the politically correct ‘Snow White’ with this statement:
“People are making these jokes about ours being the PC Snow White... yeah, it is - because it needed that. Our version is a refreshing story about a young woman who has a function beyond Someday My Prince Will Come.”
The 1937 animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is one of the great movies of the 1930s and definitely belongs on any list of the greatest animated films ever made.
