According to a Puck report, Luca Guadagnino suggested delaying the release of “Challengers,” but Amazon has yet to make a final decision. This all stems from the actors currently being on strike.
“Challengers” is supposed to open the 80th Venice Film Festival late next month. Guadagnino’s suggestion is unprecedented but also not that surprising given that his three stars (Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist) would not be able to walk down the red carpet or do any promotional work on the film.
In that same Puck piece, there’s also Warner Bros. reportedly considered delaying “Blue Beetle” from August to next year due to the strike but ultimately deciding not to. If the strike persists then maybe they will.
Studios have until July 20th to decide whether or not to accept their invites and premiere their respective films at the Venice Film Festival. That’s Friday. The strike will likely not be resolved by then.
