Steven Soderbergh has secretly filmed a new series, titled ‘COMMAND Z’, starring Michael Cera and Liev Schreiber, that will be released in 3 days. It’s Soderbergh, I’m not surprised by this news.
The series is said to be a sci-fi satire where a group of people time travel back to 2023 to stop their dystopian future. Funny. No word on how minuscule the budget was for this project. The trailer can be seen here …
Soderbergh already has a new series, “Full Circle,” which premiered yesterday, July 13, on MAX. “COMMAND Z” premieres July 17, and is only 90 minutes long, but there are eight episodes of varying length. One will only be able to stream it on Soderbergh’s Extension765 website.
The series was written by American author, radio host and journalist Kurt Anderson, known as one of the editors of Spy magazine. Here’s Soderbergh explaining the series, via a newsletter on his site:
“It’s apparently about ninety minutes long, but there are eight episodes of varying length, so is it an actual series or just a movie cut up into pieces?”
Michael Cera stars as a scientist who tells his staff to travel back in time, to 2023, to revise history and save the world. The project was independently financed by Soderbergh. “COMMAND Z” is said to have been filmed between “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” and “Full Circle,” according to the press release.
I haven’t even started watching “Full Circle” yet, anybody seen it?
