The trailer for Ethan Coen’s “Drive-Away Dolls” (originally titled “Drive-Away Dykes”) was released this morning.
Coen and screenwriter Tricia Cooke, who also happens to be his wife, confirmed to Collider that “Drive Away Dolls” is the first of a planned “lesbian B movie trilogy.”
The idea was to write three queer B movies that I thought would just sit in the drawer. And now we made one. […] And we have another one written.
Coen adds that this trilogy was being worked on for the last 20 years. The idea was to write them and that they then “would just kind of sit in the drawer and our kids would look at one day when they were old and get some laughs. And now we've made one of them”.
According to Coen, in regard to his previous work, “Drive-Away Dolls” is most comparable to Coen classics “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and “The Big Lebowski“ — it is “filthy fun,” Coen adds. Whereas Cooke adds that it resembles “Raising Arizona.”
