Terrifying. Noah Baumbach wrote this thing?
I am not not ready to give up on this movie. I’m really not. But, man, the promo for “Barbie” is just not doing it for me. The film looks like pure vanilla.
Just watch these clips. Is this the best footage they could find to showcase the spirit of this movie? The humor falls completely flat. The acting isn’t convincing. I just hope this isn’t a forecast for the rest of the movie.
The cast of “Barbie” was on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where the first clips of Greta Gerwig’s dollhouse movie were premiered.
There is too much talent for this to be a total disaster. And yet, a producer friend texted me last Thursday that “the one big summer movie that’s a disaster is Barbie. Reshoots, different cuts, roles nixed.”
There were a few test-screenings for “Barbie” earlier this year, with responses mostly positive, but yes, I did receive some negative ones. I did chuckle at the reaction of one attendee who claimed that the film was “a genuine atrocity, one of the sloppiest and emptiest films I have ever seen.”
“Barbie” has been rated PG-13 for suggestive references and brief language. It’s set for release on July 21st.
