The schedule for the 76th Cannes Film Festival is taking shape. Most titles have been given spots on the 11-day calendar.
I won’t note every single movie in the below calendar. What I have added are all the competition directors and the key out-of-competitions.
5/17 Catherine Corsini/Hirokazu Kore-Eda
5/18 Bing Wang/James Mangold
5/19 Jonathan Glazer/Nuri Bilge Ceylan/Ben Hania
5/20 Ramata Sy/Martin Scorsese/Todd Haynes
5/21 Justine Triet/Karim Ainouz
5/22 Aki Kaurismaki/Jessica Hausner
5/23 Marco Bellocchio/Wes Anderson
5/24 Anh Hung Tran/Nanni Moretti
5/25 Wim Wenders/Catherine Breillat
5/26 Alice Rohrwacher/Ken Loach
For most readers, May 20th is the key date. That’s when Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” will screen at 7pm. Todd Haynes’ “May/December” will follow on that same day at 11pm — it’s practically a midnight movie at this point.
The competition ends on the final day with Rohrwacher’s “La Chimera” and Ken Loach’s “The Old Oak.” I might have to extend my trip by a day to watch these two.
Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” screens on May 19th and that’s going to be another challenging day with Ben Hania’s docu-fiction film and Ceylan’s 197-minute “On Barren Weeds” also screening.
Cannes opens on May 16th with Maiwenn’s “Jeanne Du Barry.” I’ll be missing that one as I only land at Cannes on the morning of the 17th.
