Here’s a shocker.
Josh and Benny Safdie are temporarily splitting up to direct separate projects, according to Above the Line.
That much-rumored Netflix film starring Adam Sandler, Gael Garcia Bernal, Megan Thee Stallion and Ben Affleck will only be directed by Josh. They are supposed to start production in July, not sure if there’s been a delay due to the writer’s strike.
The plot is said to revolve around the sports cards business, with Sandler tackling a memorabilia collector and Affleck eyed to play a former athlete. The Safdies co-wrote the script for that one.
So, after directing the critically-acclaimed “Heaven Knows What,” “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems,” they’ll be going the solo route. It’s a surprising twist in a filmmaking career that seems to only be revving up.
Benny has also been acting a lot. He’s in Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and was recently seen in “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret.” He also played a politician in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza.”
The report also tackles the recent controversy regarding the directing duo. Their former co-producer is accused of sexual harassing a minor on “Good Time.” However, the Safdies split is said to have nothing to do with this.
