Here’s Screen Daily’s spitballing of the upcoming Venice Film Festival. The lineup is set to be announced in July.
Curiously enough, they don’t mention Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers.” Maybe that one’s going to world premiere at Telluride and then TIFF.
Poor Things (Lanthimos)
Io Capitano (Garrone)
El Conde (Larrain)
Ferrari (Mann)
Wizards! (Michod)
Challengers (Guadagnino)
Memory (Franco)
Priscilla (Coppola)
Maestro (Cooper)
Nyad (Vasarhelyi/Chin)
Napoleon (Scott)
Saltburn (Fennell)
The Empire (Dumont)
The Beast (Bonello)
Les Indesirables (Ly)
Consent (Filho)
Bernadette (Domenach)
Making Of (Kahn)
The Palace (Polanski)
Coup de Chance (Allen)
DogMan (Besson)
Not a bad looking lineup.
You can probably add Andrew Haigh’s “Strangers,” Kiril Serebrenikkov’s “Limonov,” Sean Durkin’s “The Iron Claw,” and maybe even Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders.” I’m also hearing that Xavier LeGrand’s “Le Successeur” is pretty much locked.
It doesn’t really look as though David Fincher’s “The Killer” will show up. Hayao Miyazaki’s “How Do You Live” is also a major question mark as the Japanese filmmaker doesn’t seem willing to go to any festivals with his new film.
Damien Chazelle will preside over the jury, which hasn’t been announced yet.
