Assessing the different opinions here at Cannes, I get the sense that people are not that excited for Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City.” They’re kind of getting sick of his repetitive style. They’re over him.
I’m not one of those people. I was disappointed by “The French Dispatch” but Anderson still has a few great movies left in him. He also shouldn’t change his style, that’s what makes him a distinguishable auteur, no, I just want him to have a good story to tell this time around.
All of this to say that “Asteroid City” will be screened tomorrow afternoon and we’ll be getting reactions soon after that. At least we’ll have one hell of a star-studded cast walking up those iconic red steps at the premiere:
Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee, Jeff Goldblum and Rita Wilson.
The time-capsule-worthy Andersons for me are The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom.
