Aziz Ansari has no damn good fortune.
After failing to revive “Being Mortal,” which will likely never be completed, the actor/filmmaker hopped on to his next potential directorial debut, this one was titled “Good Fortune” and set to star Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen.
Ansari started shooting “Good Fortune” last week only to have production halted by WGA protesters yesterday. There is no new date for production to resume. The guy just can’t catch a break.
At around roughly 6PM, the teamster and IATSE trucks drove offsite to a nearby base camp. Picketers held the line until 12:30am when production was called. Sources tell us that there wasn’t any shooting accomplished.
The film is being described as a “high concept comedy about the gig economy in Los Angeles.”
If you remember, production on Ansari’s “Being Mortal” began last year in Los Angeles. Then three weeks later, on April 20th, the shoot was derailed when Searchlight received a complaint from an actress complaining about “inappropriate behavior” on the part of star Bill Murray.
Production on the film, which was halfway completed, shut down and never resumed again. There was word that Ansari’s agents were shopping “Being Mortal” around at the Cannes market, but to no avail. It turned out, Searchlight didn’t want to touch it anymore.
Deadline’s now saying that “Good Fortune” is also being shopped around Cannes this week.
