I wasn’t bored by the first 100 or so minutes of James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3” and that’s saying something. I found the last few Marvel movies to be damn-near unwatchable. This one, it kept me glued to the screen. I enjoyed the camaraderie, the filmmaking, the humor, the worlds being built up in front of our very eyes. Dave Bautista, who stars as Drax, has been the MVP of these movies to me; his joke delivery has always been near-perfect. Then Gunn had to turn this third chapter into CGI overkill in the last 40 minutes. Mind-numbingly so. I started tuning out by the end of it, I didn’t care about the stakes, nor did I cry, like the guy sitting next to me, during the Guardians farewell. Yes, this is said to be the final film of the ‘Guardians’ trilogy, but it turns out to be the most robotic-feeling one as well. [C+]
