For months, there has been speculation about what the runtime for “Killers of the Flower Moon” would be. After all, Scorsese’s last film, 2019’s “The Irishman,” ran for 209 minutes.
The ‘Killers’ rumors started a few months ago with Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman saying it was 3 hours 20 minutes, adding that Cannes wanted Scorsese to make it shorter — but we never believed they would dare ask him to do that.
Then Variety had speculated that it was “nearly four hours,” only to specify that it might be 3 hours 45 minutes a few days later. Did Scorsese add to the runtime? This film kept getting longer by the day.
Additionally, in an interview, Thierry Fremaux stated he had seen a version of the film that was five minutes shorter than Sergio Leone’s “Once Upon a Time in America,” which was 4+ hours.
A few days later, The Movie Database listed the movie's theatrical runtime as 3 hours and 54 minutes. What the hell was going on? Were we going to hit the 4 hour mark?
Now, Deadline’s saying that it’s locked and ready to go at … 3 hours 26 minutes. Slightly shorter than expected, but still what one might qualify as “epic.”
Martin Scorsese has locked his cut of “Killers of the Flower Moon”, and Deadline can reveal that the final run time will be 3 hours, 26 minutes […] There has been much guessing about the film’s length, with wild guesses speculating it could be four hours. That is simply not the case.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” will be screening next month at the Cannes Film Festival. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons and Lily Gladstone.
