Variety’s Elsa Keslassy is finally reporting on L’Affaire Corsini. It’s an interesting story that, to my knowledge, none of the trades had pounced on.
On Sunday, we had reported, via Le Parisien, that Catherine Corsini was stripped of her promised Cannes competition slot after several last-minute accusations were being lobbed against her and the film.
These allegations included harassment of crew members and having an underage actor engage in inappropriate on-screen behaviour without consent.
Corsini was meant to be the seventh female director in competition for her film “Le Retour”, but her competition slot is apparently now on hold.
Let it stay “on hold,” permanently.
It's crazy to think that Corsini, a middling filmmaker, at best, actually had a Cannes competition slot instead of Bonello, Campillo and Dumont. It’s rather mind-boggling how much Cannes loves her. She last competed for the Palme in 2021 for “The Divide.”
Cannes is set to announce the final additions to its lineup on Thursday morning. By then we’ll know if Corsini managed to squeeze in.
