I’m a little late to this news.
Marvel’s upcoming “Blade” reboot already lost a director and has had extensive rewrites. THR’s latest report has “True Detective” creator/writer Nic Pizzolatto being tapped by Marvel to the latest round of rewrites.
Pizzolatto and “Blade” star Mahershala Ali previously worked together on the third season of HBO’s “True Detective.” Pizzolatto has also written a few film scripts over the years such as “Galveston,” “The Guilty,” and “The Magnificent Seven.”
This is, at least, the fourth writer to officially take on the “Blade” reboot after Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury and Beau DeMayo. Is Pizzolatto the final one? The film is supposed to start shooting next month.
Another question they needs to be asked: Will it actually be shooting in a couple of weeks? Nobody really knows, maybe not even Marvel. If so, Pizzolatto must have a strict deadline to complete this script on time.
French filmmaker Yann Demange (“71,” “White Boy Rick”) was hired to replace Bassam Tariq. We also know Mia Goth has a big role, she’ll be joined by Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre.
Guillermo del Toro set the tone for the original series with his R-rated “Blade II,” many believe that one to be the essential tackling of the vampire hero. Technically, in the comics, at least, Blade is born a half-vampire, but is resistant to sunlight, silver, and garlic.
The film has a release date of September 4, 2024.
