I was getting worried about Jack Nicholson’s lack of public appearances. He hasn’t even been attending any games of his beloved Lakers since 2021.
Yesterday, Jack was back in his chair at the game. The crowd gave him a standing ovation. He was all smiles as the Lakers won their series against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Nicholson turned 86 last week.
Nicholson is a national treasure, right up there in the pantheon of the great post-60s American actors, alongside Pacino, De Niro and Hackman. He’s basically retired at this point, his last acting credit was for his dear friend James L. Brooks’ “How Do You Know” in 2010.
Nicholson was, at some point, rumored to star in a remake of the German comedy “Toni Erdmann.” That project was quickly scratched off. I don’t think we’ll again be seeing him on-screen.
What’s your favorite performance of his?
There are too many to choose from. Five Easy Pieces, Chinatown, The Last Detail, The Passenger, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, The Shining, Terms of Endearment, Prizzi’s Honor, Broadcast News, Batman, A Few Good Men, As Good As it Gets, The Pledge, About Schmidt, The Departed … Legend.
