I thought the ‘Shrek’ franchise was DOA, but it seems as though a fifth film is definitely in the works over at DreamWorks.
Illumination founder and CEO, Chris Meledandri, who has “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” coming out tomorrow, is looking to reboot the ‘Shrek’ franchise.
Meledandri is telling Variety that he expects the film’s original voice cast, which includes Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy, to all return for “Shrek 5.”
“We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.”
The ‘Shrek’ franchise really ran its course after the second film. They milked it into four movies, the last one being 2010’s “Shrek Forever After.” If you remember, the first two movies actually competed in official competition at Cannes. That was then, this is now.
