After “X,” and “Pearl”, filmmaker Ti West is dead-set in completing his Mia Goth trilogy with “MaXXXine.”
The film, about the ‘80s porn industry, is said to start production this month in Los Angeles and today it just added a bunch of talented actors to its roster.
According to THR, joining Goth will be Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon.
A rumor had circulated last month about Kevin Bacon and Helena Bonham Carter potentially joining the film. It seems as though only Bacon made the cut, but I truly love what I’m seeing with this cast.
Goth reprises her titular role. The film is said to take place in 1985, five years after “X,” as Goth’s Maxine sets out in Hollywood to find fame. Production is said to take around 7 weeks to complete.
According to sources, it will deal with the dangerous world of underground filmmaking. Characters details are being kept secret, but what is known does point the way. Esposito plays an agent for adult film and Z-list movie actors while Debicki is a film director. Monaghan and Canavale are LAPD detectives while Bacon is a private detective.
The question remains whether Maxine will inevitably turn into a murderous psychopath like her doppelgänger Pearl. I bet she does. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, West gave a little more details about what fans can expect from the film.
“To round the whole thing out, MaXXXine as a sequel to X is fine. MaXXXine as part of a trilogy is infinitely more interesting, so that was part of the overall concept. I think what’ll be fun in MaXXXine, I’m not going to tell you what it’s about, but what’s fun is it is an evolution of the character, in the way that you met Pearl in X, but then you get to know a different side of her in Pearl. Yes, you have met Maxine. It is a continuation of Maxine, but she is at a very different point in her life. It’s going to be an interesting thing to catch up with her when we do, and to see Mia Goth in yet another way."
“MaXXXine” has no release date. If filming does indeed get completed in early June then we can maybe have some hope for a 2023 release.
