Tom King, who is a DC Studios writer, accidentally let it spill last month that James Gunn was writing and directing “Superman: Legacy”.
The following week DC and Warner Bros made it official that Gunn was going to spearhead the next Superman movie.
Now, we’re hearing that “Superman: Legacy” will start production next January in Atlanta. The film is already in pre-production, so casting news and other updates are sure to come soon.
Gunn had already confirmed that he was working on the screenplay and that it should be completed very soon. He even posted a photo of the actual script on his Instagram — which can be seen below.
“Superman: Legacy” will be the first film of the new DC Universe. The movie will focus on a young version of Clark Kent/Superman. This means that Henry Cavill, who played Superman in Zack Snyder's films, will not return to the role.
We currently don’t know who the actor playing Supes will be. There has been no official announcement, but there was (controversial) confirmation that Cavill would not be returning for the new movie.
Gunn is known for the two “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies he directed last decade. He went on to helm “The Suicide Squad” for the DCEU in 2021 before being hired to Co-Chair DC Studios.
It’ll be a while before we watch “Superman Legacy” on the big screen, it won’t be released in theaters until July 11, 2025.
