Tom King, who is a DC Studios writer, accidentally let it spill that James Gunn was writing and directing “Superman: Legacy”.
King’s interview was with YouTube channel Comic Pop Returns. Around the 52:00 minute mark, the writer mentions how Gunn is a fit leader for the DC brand, and casually mentions that, not only is Gunn writing the movie, but he will also be in charge of directing.
I’m thinking King was not allowed to say what he said because the video has since been put to private. Way to be obvious, DC.
Gunn had already confirmed that he was writing “Superman Legacy”, but, with no director confirmed, many names were rumoured to be in contention, including Gunn’s.
“Superman: Legacy” will be the first film of the new DC Universe. The movie will focus on a young version of Clark Kent/Superman. This means that Henry Cavill, who played Superman in Zack Snyder's films, will not return to the role. We currently don’t know who the actor playing Supes will be.
Gunn is known for the two “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies he directed last decade. He went on to helm “The Suicide Squad” for the DCEU in 2021 before being hired as Co-Chairman of DC Studios.
It’ll be a while before we watch “Superman Legacy,” it won’t be released in theaters until July 11, 2025.
