Last week I posted “RRR” director SS Rajamouli’s unique Sight and Sound ballot, one that included “King-Fu Panda” and “Aladdin,” and briefly mentioned that he had fallen asleep while watching Oscar-Winner “Parasite”
His confession occured before the “RRR” craze in the States, but, since he was already such a big name in India, it wasn’t left unnoticed in his native country.
In a television interview, Rajamouli shared his views about “Parasite,” stating that he started watching Bong Joon-ho’s Best Picture winner at night and snoozed off as he found the pace of the film to be a real chore.
According to India’s News18, these are the exact words Rajamouli said during a television interview:
"Parasite” didn't work much for me. I felt the film was a little slow in the beginning. We started watching the film a little bit late around 10 pm, and so halfway through, I dozed off and slept.
This prompted Bollywood fans to lash at Rajamouli, including one angry social media user who wrote: "Rajamouli thinks a movie is all about unrealistic elevation of the lead actor" while another tweet said: "What do you expect from the guy who makes hero-worshipping movies, who comes from the mass masala movie industry?"
“RRR” was barely a thing in the US at the time, so it’s understandable that this wasn’t really known until very recently.
It’s not like everyone is supposed to love “Parasite” either. It’s a very entertaining movie that still has —albeit, very few— detractors. However, if one were to criticize “Parasite,” I don’t think calling it “slow” would be the right way to go.
