A Bloomberg report claims that Apple plans to spend $1 billion a year to produce movies that will be released in theaters. It’s all part of an effort to raise its profile in Hollywood.
Among the films being touted for theatrical distribution are Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon.” Regardless, if either plans to premiere at Cannes they would still do so out of competition due to French movie laws.
We’re also not talking just a week in theaters to be eligible for Oscars, but rather a full-fledged theatrical release that could span many weeks. This is great news for those who wanted to watch Scorsese and Scott’s new films on the big screen.
The company is attempting to partner with other studios to release a few titles in theaters this year. I wonder who nabs both films. I can see Paramount and/or Universal being interested. While we’re at it, I’m also hearing rumors that ‘Napoleon’ is a November release and ‘Killers’ comes out on Christmas Day …
