UPDATED: This afternoon, PEOPLE magazine broke the story that Jonathan Majors will indeed be charged by the NY DA:
PEOPLE obtained documents from the Manhattan District Attorney's office that show Majors, 33, was charged with three counts of assault in the third degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree, three counts of attempted assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, after he was arrested for an alleged domestic dispute on Saturday.
The documents show the victim told police that Majors allegedly "[struck] her about the face with an open hand, causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear," as well as allegedly grabbed her hand and neck, "causing bruising and substantial pain."
EARLIER: The NYPD were told that the alleged assault victim on Saturday was Jonathan Majors' girlfriend — and, according to her, they had gotten into an argument while in a taxi returning home from a bar in Brooklyn.
According to TMZ, sources were told by the NYPD that Majors’ girlfriend saw another woman texting Majors, and she confronted him — trying to sneak a peek at his phone. This got Majors angry and that’s when the assault occured.
The full power and wrath of the Mouse has now come knockin …
Majors’ girlfriend has recanted her statement. This is however a report that comes directly from Majors' attorney, Priya Chaudhry, who isn't exactly an objective source.
All we know is that there was an altercation, that his girlfriend is in the hospital, and that police reported injuries to her face and neck before arresting him.
Victims recanting their testimonies is, sadly, a thing that happens a lot. However, Majors’ attorney is also claiming they have several witnesses in addition to footage from the taxi where the assault took place.
If all of the evidence can be produced, then it should be an open-and-shut case, right?
However, more peculiarly, Majors’ lawyer is claiming that his girlfriend was taken to the hospital not for her injuries, but, rather, for "an emotional crisis”. This contradicts what the NYPD had said, very plainly, on Saturday, that the victim was put into hospital care specifically for her physical injuries.
That’s all for now. I won’t be tackling this case for, at least, another 24 hours. There’s a clear and purposeful fog of contradictory information coming out and it’s best to have a third party, preferably the NYPD, giving us the actual evidence.
My best guess is that Majors will be hosting SNL in a year’s time.
