The idiots who run the Razzies decided to name Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde” their Worst Picture award — an award that, over time, will age like milk.
It’s one thing to dislike “Blonde,” but it’s a whole other thing to believe that it’s actually the very worst movie of 2022. The disconnect the Razzies have is quite honestly stunning.
Dominik’s film, which led the Razzies with eight nominations, also won Worst Screenplay. The Razzies called the film “misogynistic, salacious and fallacious” and said it “shamelessly exploits the memory of the late Marilyn Monroe.”
Let’s remember, “Blonde” star Ana de Armas is up for the Best Actress award at tomorrow night’s Oscars.
Critics were inevitably going to be split on “Blonde.” However, some of them also had their knives out against Dominik for various reasons, one of which is based on the controversial interviews he’s been giving to promote the film, the other being his utter refusal to portray Marilyn Monroe as a symbol of female empowerment in “Blonde.”
Regardless, the Razzies are a total joke of an awards show. The nominees are determined by members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation. All you have to do to join the voting body is pay a fee ranging from $40 (for two people) to $500 (lifetime membership). You don’t even need to have seen all the movies to vote.
So, unidentified voters, with unknown qualifications, have the power to take down any movie, actor and actress they dislike. Remember, this is the same group that infamously nominated Stanley Kubrick as 1980’s Worst Director for “The Shining.” They also nominated Brian De Palma for “Scarface” and Ennio Morricone for “The Thing” score.
