Here’s a film that was a minor highlight of this past January’s Sundance Film Festival.
Nicole Holofcener has built up a strong filmography over her 3-decade filmmaking career. My favorite of hers is still “Lovely and Amazing,” this little indie gem from 2002.
She’s back with “You Hurt My Feelings,” a slight but very watchable dissection on modern-day relationships. One thing you can always count on Holofcener is that she’ll never change her style, she’ll stick to her tiny romantic mosaics, filled with comedic bite, set in NYC.
We now have a trailer via A24. “You Hurt My Feelings” premieres May 26 in theaters.
Julia Louis Dreyfus stars as a novelist whose successful marriage is suddenly put into turmoil when she overhears her husband (Tobias Menzies) giving an honest reaction to her latest book.
It’s as simple, low-key and ever-so-sweet as it sounds. Not top-tier Holofcener like “Lovely and Amazing” or “Enough Said,” but this’ll do.
Side note, Holofcener has become a successful screenwriter for other filmmakers, she co-wrote “The Last Duel” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me.”
