It’s “Beau is Afraid” week for many in the press. Ari Aster’s 3-hour epic has started to screen in numerous cities.
The embargo is currently, and strictly, set for April 18th. There is no other news on that front. It could change at any moment, I guess depending on how comfortable A24 is in having critical reactions unleashed online.
There have been a few Letterboxd reactions posted, and, so far, no surprise, it’s a love/hate polarizing kinda thing. I wouldn’t put too much stake in either of these. We know this won’t be a film for everyone’s tastes.
Which of these two reactions do you trust more?
‘Beau’ is skipping film festivals. I’m not entirely sure why. I guess it could have aimed for Cannes, which occurs just 3 weeks after its release date.
In a new BTS video, Aster stated that his intention with this new film was “to put you inside the experience of being a loser.” He added that it is “a Jewish Lord of the Rings,” except the final destination here isn’t to get to the ring, but, rather, mommy.
“If you pumped a 10-year-old full of Zoloft and had him get your groceries, that’s like this movie,” he added in the video.
