Last October, Andrew Haigh completed production on his next film, this one is titled “Strangers.”
There was a rumor a few months ago that HULU would just release it on their platform this Spring, bypassing any theatrical distribution, but now Paul Mescal is telling W Magazine that it’ll be released “at the end of the year.”
The 49-year-old Haigh, riding on his last three critically-acclaimed films (“Weekend”, “45 Years,” “Lean on Pete”), has assembled a ‘Strangers’ cast that includes Mescal, Andrew Scott, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell.
Here’s the synopsis:
“Strangers” follows Screenwriter Adam (Scott) who, one night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor (Mescal) that punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As they start getting closer, Adam is pulled back to his childhood home where he discovers that his late parents (Foy and Bell) are both still alive and look the same age as the day they died over 30 years ago.
I know there are some hopes that this one goes to Cannes, and maybe it will, but I haven’t seen any indication that points to a Croisette premiere.
Rather, Haigh premiered his last film, “Lean on Pete,” at the 2018 Venice Film Festival. One must assume that he might go back there in September for “Strangers.”
