Mira Sorvino is justifiably angry and calling out the Academy for not including her late father Paul Sorvino during the In Memoriam tribute.
Sorvino tweeted, “It is baffling beyond belief that my beloved father and many other amazing brilliant departed actors were left out. The Oscars forgot about Paul Sorvino, but the rest of us never will!!”
Sorvino, who famously starred in “Goodfellas,” alongside late actor Ray Liotta, died in July 2022 of natural causes at age 83. His other memorable work included roles in “The Gambler,” “Reds,” “Cruising,” “Dick Tracy,” and “Nixon.”
It wasn’t just Sorvino. Janet Yang’s Academy also ignored Philip Baker Hall, one of the great character actors of all time.
Known for his unique collaborations with Paul Thomas Anderson, which resulted in some of his greatest roles (“Hard Eight”, “Boogie Nights” and “Magnolia”), some of Hall’s best work could be found in essentials such as “Secret Honor”, “Midnight Run”, “Zodiac”, “The Truman Show”, “The Insider”, and “Dogville”.
He had an astounding 175 film and television credits. He was the face audiences recognized, but whose name they didn’t quite know. Clearly, the Academy knew neither his face nor his name. Embarrassing.
Other late actors omitted: Anne Heche, Tom Sizemore, Robert Blake, Leslie Jordan, “Triangle of Sadness” star Charlbi Dean, Barbara Walters, Cindy Williams, Melinda Dillon, Hugh Hudson, Peter Brook, Mike Hodges, George T. Miller, and Lisa Marie Presley, all not included in this year’s In Memoriam.
