Andrew Haigh, riding high off his last three critically-acclaimed films (“Weekend”, “45 Years,” “Lean on Pete”), is about release what some are calling the best film of his career, “All of Us Strangers.”
The assembled cast for ‘Strangers’ includes Mescal, Andrew Scott, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell. They all deliver strong performances in it. I’ll have my own review pop up sometime next week. I wasn’t as enraptured by it as some critics were, but it’s a notable effort that’s getting heavily praised.
Regardless, we now have an idea as to what Haigh’s next film might be. Ottessa Moshfegh (“Eileen”) is currently penning an adaptation of her own novel, “McGlue,” which is going to be directed by Haigh.
“McGlue” is a murder mystery novella about a drunken sailor who wakes up to find himself chained down in the hold of the boat he works on. He is too drunk to remember what happened, but everyone is saying he murdered his shipmate, Johnson. This doesn't make sense to McGlue, who considered Johnson his friend, and has no memory of killing him.
