Japanese distributor Bitters End has confirmed that it will be giving Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb epic “Oppenheimer” a theatrical release in Japan next year. A specific release date was not announced.
The distributor added that it comes in the wake of, “months of thoughtful dialogue associated with the subject matter and acknowledging the particular sensitivity for us Japanese.”
The film’s subject matter has made it a very controversial topic in Japan, and has had Nolan having to defend his creative decision to not show the Japanese victims of the bomb – saying the film is told subjectively from Oppenheimer’s point of view.
This also means that, with a Japanese release now set, the $950 million box-office gross of Nolan’s film will surely be inching closer to the Billion dollar mark.
